Being in Esquimalt, so close to the ocean, it’s hard not to have it on your mind! These amazing beaches that we get to explore are often littered with beautifully diverse rocks and stones. They almost feel like thoughtful gifts from nature; weathered by each other to create stunningly smooth surfaces over their years of being tumbled by the waves. We’ve taken this art created by Mother Nature to create our own inspired variations of her work! Her rocks will act as an organic inspiration with clay wrapping around the rocks to caress their shape and texture. Once removed, you’ve got your very own organically formed beach rock bowl! Choose to keep them plain, texture them like crazy, keep them as individual bowls, or combine them into a multi-dimensional bowl! Decorate your new beach rock bowls with our over 100 colour choices! All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees, so bring your best ideas and your patient instructor will help you along every step of the way! In this workshop you will learn how to: ~ Roll out a clay slab ~ Use a slump-mould to create a form ~ Decorating with stamps, carving, surface texture and glazes After this workshop your piece will be bisque fired and then you can return to glaze the piece during one of our "Glazing 101" workshops which is included in the cost of your class! It is a 1.5 hour intro to glazing that will teach you how to glaze the piece you have made. Alternatively, you may choose a single colour that we will glaze for you. After glazing, the piece will be fired in our kiln, and you can expect your piece to be ready for pickup 2-3 weeks after you have glazed. The sooner you come back to glaze, the sooner you will have your pieces! We will always contact you for pickup. Our clay discovery classes have been curated to teach a basic technique of hand building. You will be amazed with what you can make with just your hands and some clay!
