Learn how to use positive and negative space in “stamp” form to create your own work of art that you can use to print over and over again! Block printing is a method of printmaking involving carving a relief image usually into wood or linoleum. This class will focus on linoleum/rubber cutting since it is the most accessible method. Your carving can be of any subject, however, if it is your first time trying this medium, we recommend starting with a “simple” image to get the hang of it. Bring your best ideas and your patient instructor, Ray, will help you along every step of the way. All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees. In this class you will learn how to: ~ Create an image that will translate clearly to a print ~ Transfer your image onto a linoleum block ~ Safely carve your linoleum block ~ Properly inking your block ~ Print on paper and fabric ~ Clean and maintain your block ~ Source supplies and recreate this workshop at home At the end of the class, you will take home: ~ Multiple paper prints ~ 1 Customized fabric tote bag ~ 1 Customized fabric pencil case ~ Two reusable carved blocks you can use to print your image over and over ~ Resources for further exploration into the world of block-printing You will be asked to design your own image for printing. You can draw something before the workshop, in the workshop, or feel free to bring some printed images in with you.
