Did you take our beginner hand building course (or have 18 hours of recent instruction) and absolutely fall in love with the pretty colours of glazes or the dimension of surface textures? Then, this four-week course is a perfect place to continue honing your craft in creating the finished look you want for your ceramics. In this interpretation of our previous Level 2 course, you will continue to work with traditional hand building techniques with a focus on surface decoration. Now that you’re past the beginner stages, we will have you experimenting with glaze combinations to create a “signature glaze” for your pieces! Go even further in your journey by creating “signature textures”, stamps, and a maker’s mark in this course as you develop your style. Work with your instructor to learn how to achieve desired results using advanced techniques, layering glazes and textures, and gain troubleshooting techniques to use after your course is completed. We will have our studio examples; however, you will be expected to bring in your OWN inspirations to create something you are excited about taking home! This is intended to help you bring out your own style while getting a better grasp on surface decoration. If you have very specific ideas for your pieces in mind, please bring them to your class and work with your instructor on how to execute them! You will take home 5-8 pieces (2-3 6x6” texture plates, 3-5 basic pieces for experimenting) with a variety of surface techniques and multiple glaze test tiles of your own design by the end of the course; the goal is to take home pieces that will aid you in surface decoration as you continue your practice. Here's what to look forward to in this course: • Glazing up to 10 test tiles for experimenting • Learning sgraffito, underglazes, and wax resist • Water-etching and slip-trailing on bone-dry clay • Gaining advanced skills to use advanced tools during Open Studio As always, we are here to give you a BOOST of confidence and guidance as you continue your journey into the world of creating with clay. When the class is finished, please feel welcome to use the Eccentric Artist Studio and our advanced tools as resources to continue your journey into the vast world of clay.
