Did you take our beginner hand building course (or have 18 hours of recent instruction) and absolutely fall in love with creating sculptural pieces? Then, this four-week course is a perfect place to continue honing your craft in sculpting with ceramics. In this interpretation of our previous Level 2 course, you will continue to work with traditional hand building techniques with a focus on sculptural construction on a larger scale than in Level 1 (up to 16” wide or tall). Now that you’re past the beginner stages, we will get you planning, building, and glazing a sculpture of your own design! Work with your instructor to learn how to build your piece using advanced tools, how to support your piece as you construct it, maintain moisture levels in clay when you’re creating BIG, and gain troubleshooting techniques to use as your piece grows and for after your course is completed. We will have our studio examples; however, you will be expected to bring in your OWN inspirations to create something you are excited about taking home! This is intended to help you bring out your own style while getting a better grasp on functional construction. If you have very specific ideas for your pieces in mind, please bring them to your class and work with your instructor on how to execute them! You will be able to create a large sculpture (up to 16” tall or wide) of your own design by the end of the course; the goal is to take home pieces that YOU want to make.
