Everything is better with extra character! In this class you will be introduced to the technique of additive sculpture to bring your pieces to life with its own personality. Make a mug or small vase and then add personalized features; these could be facial features, little creatures, vines, or whatever you'd like! Create an icon from pop culture or take on replicating your favourite creature. Begin your workshop by choosing from our three different colours of clay; white, speckled buff, or terracotta and then decorate your new mug with over 100 colour choices! All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees, so bring your best ideas and your patient instructor will help you along every step of the way! In this workshop you will learn how to: ~ Roll out a clay slab ~ Create a slab cylinder ~ Attach a base using scratch and slip ~ Create simple handles ~ Sculpt features to add to your vessel ~ Decorate with stamps, carving, and glazes ~ Surface finish to minimize harsh edges Our clay discovery classes have been curated to teach the basics of hand building. You will be amazed with what you can make with just your hands and some clay! This is a great introduction to pottery without making a multi-week commitment. All discovery classes are adaptable for beginners or those with more advanced skills and experience. After this workshop your piece will be bisque fired and then you can return to glaze the piece during one of our "Glazing 101" workshops which is included in the cost of your class! It is a one-hour intro to glazing that will teach you how to glaze the piece you have made. Alternatively, you may choose a single color that we will glaze for you. After glazing the piece will be glaze fired, and you can expect your piece to be ready for pickup 2-3 weeks after you have glazed. We will always contact you to pick up.
