This workshop is part of our “Triple Goddess” series of workshops that follows the wheel of the year. We will use stones created by Mother Nature to create our own inspired variations of her work! Her rocks will act as an organic inspiration with clay wrapping around the rocks to caress their shape and texture. Once removed, you’ve got your very own organically formed altar dish! We will also curate and create our own burning bundles in this workshop. Smoke cleansing is a way to clear the air in your home or space, to get rid of any negative, stuck, or low-vibration energy using the smoke from a burning bundle of dried herbs or greenery. There are many cultural applications of smoke cleansing that are practiced around the entire world, we will not be focusing on the use of these tools but rather the intentional creation of them for whichever use you prefer. Begin your workshop by choosing from our three different colours of clay; white, speckled buff, or terracotta and then decorate your new altar dish with over 100 colour choices! All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees, so bring your best ideas and your patient instructor will help you along every step of the way! In this workshop you will learn: ~ Slab technique ~ Slumping clay over a form ~ Surface finishing techniques ~ Decorating with stamps, slip, and texture tools ~ Finish surfaces to minimize sharp areas ~ Create an herb bundle for burning After this workshop your piece will be bisque fired and then you can return to glaze the piece during one of our "Glazing 101" workshops which is included in the cost of your class! It is a 1.5-hour intro to glazing that will teach you how to glaze the piece you have made. Alternatively, you may choose a single colour that we will glaze for you. After glazing, the piece will be fired in our kiln, and you can expect your piece to be ready for pickup 2-3 weeks after you have glazed. The sooner you come back to glaze, the sooner you will have your pieces! We will always contact you for pickup. Our clay discovery classes have been curated to teach a basic technique of hand building. You will be amazed with what you can make with just your hands and some clay!
