Carve a meaningful design into a plate made of fresh clay! Begin your workshop by choosing from our three different colours of clay; white, speckled buff, or terracotta. Then have fun picking from over 50 colours as a basecoat before you carve away at the thin top layer of glaze to reveal the natural tone of the clay underneath. The sgrafitto technique is an impactful way of illustrating on clay with high contrast! You are welcome to print a design to copy onto your piece or show off your creativity with an original design! Depending on your skill level and design choice, you may be able to create two (2) medium-sized plates or two to three (2-3) smaller plates in this workshop. All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees, so bring your best ideas and your patient instructor will help you along every step of the way! In this workshop you will learn: ~ Rolling out clay slabs ~ Surface finishing techniques ~ Carving a design into wet clay ~ Finish surfaces to minimize sharp areas After this workshop your piece will be bisque fired and then we will clear-dip your piece so it will become food safe. After glazing, the piece will be fired in our kiln again and you can expect your piece to be ready for pickup 3-4 weeks after your initial workshop. We will always contact you via email for pickup. Our clay discovery classes have been curated to teach a basic technique of hand building. You will be amazed with what you can make with just your hands and some clay!
