Eccentric Figures have entered the studio, bringing a touch of holiday wonder with them. Inspired by the timeless charm of nativity scenes, this workshop invites you to create your own modern take on the tradition. Whether you lean toward spiritual symbolism or simply want to shape whimsical winter characters, each figure becomes a vessel for your imagination and intention. You will be guided through creating one large or a few smaller figures, depending on your vision. If you have specific shapes, patterns or textures that you would like to use, please feel free to bring them into the studio during your workshop to add that extra bit of personalization. These hand-built creations carry a special kind of magic, born from touch, patience, and clay. Craft your own small gathering of figures to grace your holiday space that are unique, soulful, and filled with the quiet joy of something made by hand. Begin your workshop by choosing from our three different colours of clay; white, speckled buff, or our seasonal feature clay. Then come back to decorate your new Eccentric Figures with over 100 colour choices. All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees, so bring your best ideas and your patient instructor will help you along every step of the way! In this workshop you will learn how to: ~ Roll out a clay slab ~ Use a cone mould to create a form ~ Attach pieces using scratch and slip ~ Decorate with stamps, carving, and glazes ~ Finish surfaces to minimize sharp areas After this workshop your piece(s) will be bisque fired and then you can return to glaze during one of our "Glazing 101" workshops which is included in the cost of your class! It is a 1.5 hour intro to glazing that will teach you how to glaze the piece(s) you have made. Alternatively, you may choose a single colour that we will glaze for you. After glazing, the piece(s) will be fired in our kiln, and you can expect them to be ready for pickup 2-3 weeks after you have glazed. The sooner you come back to glaze, the sooner you can take them home to enjoy! We will always contact you for pickup. Our clay discovery classes have been curated to teach a basic technique of hand building. You will be amazed with what you can make with just your hands and some clay! This is a great introduction to pottery without making a multi-week commitment.
