A tree to decorate is a forever staple in Christmas celebrations and it simply wouldn’t be the same without one! In this seasonal workshop, create the perfect layered trees to add a bit of eccentricity to your holiday décor. You will learn to create a small to medium-sized piece that is layered to re-create the natural shape of a Christmas tree. Cut holes to put a tealight underneath and let it glimmer or keep it whole as a simple addition to any classic décor. We have many ways to create textures and patterns to add dimension to your layered trees. If you have patterns or textures that you would like to use, please feel free to bring them into the studio during your workshop to add that extra bit of personalization. This workshop has been scheduled to be able to have your pieces finished and home in time for the holidays. Then come back to decorate your new Layered Tree with over 100 colour choices. All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees, so bring your best ideas and your patient instructor will help you along every step of the way! In this workshop you will learn how to: ~ Roll out a clay slab ~ Use a cone mould to create a form ~ Decorate with stamps, carving, and glazes ~ Attach pieces using scratch and slip ~ Finish surfaces to minimize sharp areas ~ Optimize the functionality of your piece After this workshop your piece(s) will be bisque fired and then you can return to glaze during one of our "Glazing 101" workshops which is included in the cost of your class! It is a 1.5 hour intro to glazing that will teach you how to glaze the piece(s) you have made. Alternatively, you may choose a single colour that we will glaze for you. After glazing, the piece(s) will be fired in our kiln, and you can expect them to be ready for pickup 2-3 weeks after you have glazed. The sooner you come back to glaze, the sooner you can take them home to enjoy! We will always contact you for pickup. Our clay discovery classes have been curated to teach a basic technique of hand building. You will be amazed with what you can make with just your hands and some clay!
