Small Figures
Friday, Jan 16th ~ 2:30-4:30 or 6-8pm
Details
Craft a figure to accompany you on your journey — a talisman, a reminder, or a presence to inhabit your space. Draw inspiration from the stories, myths, and worlds that resonate with you, and shape it with intention. For the most satisfying results, consider sculpting a complex form with simple glazing, or a simpler form with detailed glaze work, allowing your piece to emerge fully as it transforms in the kiln. Begin your workshop by choosing from our three different colours of clay; white, speckled buff, or our seasonal feature clay. Then come back to decorate your new Small Figures with our over 100 colour choices! All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees, so bring your best ideas and your patient instructor will help you along every step of the way! In this workshop you will learn how to: ~ Pinch small forms and shapes ~ Creating figures up to 3" tall or 3" wide ~ Sculpting small features to add life to your figures ~ Decorate with stamps, carving, and glazes ~ Finish surfaces to minimize sharp areas Project Examples: - Small animals; birds, cats, dogs, etc. - Small tokens; acorns, berries, runes, pocket goddess, etc. - Fantasy figures; Koroks, Forest Spirits, Soot Sprites, etc. - Anything you can imagine! After this workshop your piece(s) will be bisque fired and then you can return to glaze during one of our "Glazing 101" workshops which is included in the cost of your class! It is a 1.5 hour intro to glazing that will teach you how to glaze the piece(s) you have made. Alternatively, you may choose a single colour that we will glaze for you. After glazing, the piece(s) will be fired in our kiln, and you can expect them to be ready for pickup 2-3 weeks after you have glazed. The sooner you come back to glaze, the sooner you can take them home to enjoy! We will always contact you for pickup. Our clay discovery classes have been curated to teach a basic technique of hand building. You will be amazed with what you can make with just your hands and some clay! This is a great introduction to pottery without making a multi-week commitment.
