The Eccentric Orb aka "Sugar Kitty"
Thursday, Dec 11th ~ 1:30-4:30pm or 6-9pm
Details
In this workshop, you’ll begin with constructing a simple hollow clay sphere, which you’ll shape and cut to create a one-of-a-kind container with a matching spoon. These versatile pieces can hold sugar, spices, tiny treasures, or anything else you can imagine. Makers have brought to life everything from hobbit houses and gentle animals to whimsical, imaginative and fierce forms—each piece a personal expression of creativity. It’s an opportunity to connect with the clay and the season, shaping your ideas in a relaxed, intuitive way that invites both play and intention.. You can copy and paste this link into your browser to check out our Pinterest page for even more layered tree inspiration: (https://ca.pinterest.com/eccentricartiststudio/class-inspo/sugar-kitty/) Begin your workshop by choosing from our three different colours of clay; white, speckled buff, or our seasonal feature clay Then come back to decorate your new vessel with over 100 colour choices to recreate a pet at home, or your favourite pop-culture critter! All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees, so bring your best ideas and your patient instructor will help you along every step of the way! In this workshop you will learn how to: ~ Roll out and work with a clay slab ~ Use forms to achieve a desired shape ~ Create a spoon-shaped tail ~ Sculpt kitty features out of clay ~ Finish surfaces to minimize unwanted harsh edges ~ Optimize the functionality of your piece After this workshop your piece will be bisque fired and then you can return to glaze the piece during one of our "Glazing 101" workshops which is included in the cost of your class! It is a 1.5-hour intro to glazing that will teach you how to glaze the piece you have made. Alternatively, you may choose a single colour that we will glaze for you. After glazing, the piece will be fired in our kiln, and you can expect your piece to be ready for pickup 2-3 weeks after you have glazed. The sooner you come back to glaze, the sooner you will have your pieces! We will always contact you for pickup. Our clay discovery classes have been curated to teach a basic technique of hand building. You will be amazed with what you can make with just your hands and some clay! This is a great introduction to pottery without making a multi-week commitment.
