Details

Create a vessel that feels like an extension of your own hands by crafting a no-handle thumbprint tumbler. Begin by creating a simple clay form and press your fingers into the surface, letting the shape soften and respond to your touch. Each impression becomes an echo of your energy, turning a simple vessel into something deeply personal and quietly magical. You’ll sculpt, refine, and smooth your tumbler until it fits just right in your palm. Add texture, carve gentle patterns, or keep it soft and organic. Your finished piece will hold the memory of your touch long after it’s fired, becoming a daily companion infused with intention, presence, and a little bit of your own magic. Begin your workshop by choosing from our three different colours of clay; white, speckled buff, or our seasonal feature clay. Then come back to decorate your new tumbler with over 100 colour choices! This workshop allows students (even first-timers!) to use our pre-approved glaze combinations to achieve spectacular, dimensional results on the surface of their piece. There is even an exclusive combo created for this workshop and this workshop ONLY! All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees, so bring your best ideas and your patient instructor will help you along every step of the way! In this workshop you will learn how to: ~ Roll out a clay slab ~ Create a slab cylinder ~ Attach a base using scratch and slip ~ Create a thumb and finger imprints for holding ~ Decorate with stamps, carving, and glazes ~ Finish surfaces to minimize sharp areas ~ Optimize the functionality of your piece After this workshop your piece(s) will be bisque fired and then you can return to glaze during one of our "Glazing 101" workshops which is included in the cost of your class! It is a 1.5 hour intro to glazing that will teach you how to glaze the piece(s) you have made. Alternatively, you may choose a single colour that we will glaze for you. After glazing, the piece(s) will be fired in our kiln, and you can expect them to be ready for pickup 2-3 weeks after you have glazed. The sooner you come back to glaze, the sooner you can take them home to enjoy! We will always contact you for pickup. Our clay discovery classes have been curated to teach a basic technique of hand building. You will be amazed with what you can make with just your hands and some clay! This is a great introduction to pottery without making a multi-week commitment.
