Diversity in Making a Mug

We have workshops that are on a constant rotation like our Plant Pots, Culinary Clay, and Make a Mug. How could students ever make "different" pieces with the same workshop as a baseline? How could our instructors possibly let everyone customize their pieces to suit their individuality? Well, have a taste of this proof pudding gallery and you'll find it to be deliciously diverse!

Mugs that are made in our studio, although generally the same shape and size, can be further customized through a few different avenues!

  1. Textures. This could be in the form of a texture roller for consistency, carvings, or additional pieces being added on to the surfaces. Some students bring in their own stamps, cookie cutters or plants to add texture to their pieces.

  2. Handles. Add one or not! You can see previous students usually add one to create a "classic" mug shape. You can see the range of handle shapes, styles, and extra charms that were added on that make them special.

  3. Glazes. How you choose to glaze your piece will have the most effect of how it ends up looking. Some students choose to glaze in one colour and some choose to be more precise in detailing their pieces.

All of the mugs featured in this post were made in one of our beginner-friendly two-hour workshops and each student had one hour to glaze in our Glazing 101 workshop.
