Learn how to create your very own handmade ramen bowl that will be perfect for all your noodle-slurping, broth-sipping needs! In this workshop, you will be guided through the process of shaping and forming your bowl using hand-building techniques that are approachable for all skill levels. Once your bowl is complete, you'll have time to craft matching pieces like sauce dishes or chopstick rests to create a complete set. Add texture to your sauce dishes so they can double as handy garlic or ginger graters which are ideal for adding a burst of fresh flavor to your broth. Whether you keep it simple or get creative with textures and shapes, this workshop is all about making your mealtime a little more special with custom dishware made by you! Begin your workshop by choosing from our three different colours of clay; white, speckled buff, or our seasonal feature clay. Then come back to decorate your new Ramen Bowl and Sauce Dishes with our over 100 colour choices! All materials and instruction are always included in our workshop fees, so bring your best ideas and your patient instructor will help you along every step of the way! In this class you will learn how to: ~ Roll out a clay slab ~ Shape your ramen bowl ~ Attach a base using scratch and slip ~ Create small, slab dishes/chopstick rests ~ Decorate with stamps, carving, and glazes ~ Finish surfaces to minimize sharp areas ~ Optimize the functionality of your piece After this workshop your piece(s) will be bisque fired and then you can return to glaze during one of our "Glazing 101" workshops which is included in the cost of your class! It is a 1.5 hour intro to glazing that will teach you how to glaze the piece(s) you have made. Alternatively, you may choose a single colour that we will glaze for you. After glazing, the piece(s) will be fired in our kiln, and you can expect them to be ready for pickup 2-3 weeks after you have glazed. The sooner you come back to glaze, the sooner you can take them home to enjoy! We will always contact you for pickup. Our clay discovery classes have been curated to teach a basic technique of hand building. You will be amazed with what you can make with just your hands and some clay!
