8 Week Handbuilding Courses

Thinking about ceramics but don't know where to start?  You have come to the right place.  Our beginner 8-week handbuilding course teaches you the techniques and confidence to start making the pieces you want while building your skills and independence as you explore working with clay.

 

Our next course runs from Sept 3 to Oct 22, with an afternoon and evening session time available. Registration is limited to only 8 students per course.

Course Description

Our 8-week hand-building ceramics course is designed to guide you toward creative independence, building confidence in your skills while you play, experiment, and explore the magic of clay. You’ll leave with a collection of one-of-a-kind pieces that feel truly you. The studio is your oyster. Bring your wild ideas, your quiet curiosities, your sparks of inspiration, and we’ll help you bring them to life.

 

Our Course Features:

 

  • Small class size (8 student limit)

  • Step-by-step instruction with room for personal exploration

  • Adaptable for all skill levels

  • Focus on both technique and creative expression
     

Who It’s For:

 

  • Complete beginners — no prior experience needed

  • Returning students — refresh and strengthen your skills

  • All levels welcome — instruction tailored to your experience

What You’ll Learn:

  • Core handbuilding techniques

  • Surface design and glazing basics

  • How to bring your own ideas to life in clay

  • Skills to continue working independently

 

What You’ll Make:

 

  • A collection of functional or decorative pieces (up to 9” tall)

  • Typically 6–8 finished works, depending on size and pace

  • Finished with your choice of 100+ glaze options

  • All tools and materials

  • Guided instruction and demonstrations

  • Personalized feedback and support

  • A mock Open Studio session to build independence

 

After the course, you’re encouraged to continue creating during Open Studio hours, with access to the studio’s tools and space. You’ll leave with a strong foundation, giving you the confidence and skills to keep developing your practice on your own.
