BEGINNER FRIENDLY BUT NOT BEGINNER ONLY! EVERYONE WILL LEARN SOMETHING AND HAVE SOME FUN. This is a relaxed, 2-hour hands-on experience where you’ll leave with something unique and entirely your own. All materials provided. Small class size (8 people) and patient instructors. Create a Christmas plate with a little extra magic for Santa’s annual visit. In this workshop, you’ll explore the satisfying art of sgraffito, a carving technique that creates striking contrast as your lines cut through layers of surface colour to reveal the clay beneath. Using simple tools and guided techniques, you’ll shape your plate and carve a festive design to welcome Santa and his favourite treats. Think Christmas trees, stars, snowflakes, reindeer, holly, or perhaps a few words to make your plate uniquely yours. Each line and detail adds character, creating a plate that can become part of your Christmas traditions for years to come. We’ll guide you through shaping, surface preparation, and carving so you can create a plate that’s both personal and practical. No drawing experience needed, just a little curiosity and a willingness to get into the spirit of the season. Depending on your skill level and design choice, you may be able to create two medium sized (15cm) plates or two to three graduated plates (one each of 18 cm, 15 cm and 10 cm) in this workshop. You are welcome to print a design to copy onto your piece or show off your creativity with an original design! In this workshop you will learn: ~ Rolling out clay slabs ~ Surface finishing techniques ~ Carving a design into wet clay ~ Finish surfaces to minimize sharp areas Your pieces will be ready for pick up 2 - 3 weeks after the class.
