If you've visited us in the studio or taken a workshop/course with us, you will know that we are obsessed with textures on the surfaces of ceramics. Why? We have over 100 glazes to choose from, some of which highlight texture in the most beautiful way!
This dimension that occurs when a glaze "breaks" over the edge of texture adds even more layers of artistry to an already beautiful piece. If students don't know what to do to decorate, we recommend diving into a texture!
What glazes are we showing off here? The mechanical texture plate above was glazed with 3 coats of GL217 (Floating Blue). GL217 is one of our most consistent and reliable glazes for "breaking" with beautiful results. The image to our left is another plant pot that was glazed with 3 coats of GL225 (Caribbean). SEE!!! This is the only kind of breaking we like to see in the studio!
